Nileometer. Aswan, Egypt.

A slightly different view of the Nileometer today.  Looking up the steps from the river.  You can just see the markings on the walls which were used to measure the amount of inundation (anual flooding).

The inundation is now a thing of the past.  The great dams across the Nile now carefully control the water level in the river.
