This is one of those situations that seams to be just too good to be true. While I was getting my finances up to date earlier this week I read the advert booklet that came with my BT phone bill. According to the advert I could have a mobile phone from BT for just an extra £5 per month on top of my telephone/broadband package. That would save me over £10 per month. I wondered what the catch was – it sounded too good to be true.
Time to do some research I thought. That’s when I found out the details. 50 mins free call time each month to landlines or mobiles. 50 free texts each month. That’s double the call time I’m currently on and 50 more free texts than I currently get. I wondered what the catch was – it sounded too good to be true.
More reasearch. This is mobile broadband – I’d be able to check my email on the move. If there is a wi-fi network it work connect via that if not it would use the slower GPRS system. I would also allow me to surf the web and the hand set would have a realy QWERTY keyboard. (I’ve never got on with a numeric keypad for entering names or text messages). I wondered what the catch was – it sounded too good to be true.
Cynic that I am – I thought I’ve better do more research. The handset is a smart phone running a Windows base OS, that would automatically synchronise with Outlook so I’d have my entire contacts database and callendar with me. Which is good news as I’ve been with a PDA for the last few months. I wondered what the catch was – it sounded too good to be true.
Still sceptical but unable to find the catch, yesterday afternoon I placed my order with BT. First thing this morning the new phone arived and was immediately working. I’ve discovered that it comes with a spare battery, a carry pouch that claims to be leater, and a set of ear phones so you can use it as an MP3 player! I’m still looking for the catch – it all appears to be way too good to be true.
Over the next few days I’m going to put this wonder machine through its paces. And I will post the results of the tests here. If there’s a catch I’ll let you know!
