The first thing I need to say about this image… it was created in camera none of the flowers, bats or butterflies were added in post production. In fact the ONLY thing I did post production was a little adjustment to the white balance and a change to the colours to extract the overwhelming orange due to the ambient sodium light. (Oh yes I also removed a floating hand where a little bit of light seepage from the soft box had illuminated the person holding it)
The image was a 30 second exposure and we used a strobe with a soft box to illuminate Sarah, our model. The flowers, butterflies and bats were created using light stencils. If you don't know what light stencils are the are boxes with flash gun on one end and shapes cut in the lid.
Unfortunately there really was too much ambient light to do this properly outside, but we did do some others in more controlled conditions in the studio: http://photos.imb.biz/model/shoot/lightstencils

In album Model Shoots (32 photos)
1st thought was cheesy, but I guess there will be a market for it :)
Thanks for sharing this
+Robert Dyet Not really intended for market… just an illustration of a technique. First attempt at trying it outside… learned a few lessons from it. Got a few ideas of things to try next time.
