The first thing I need to say is welcome back to a number of subscribers who recently were dropped from the distribution list due to a computer bug. I’ve contacted all concerned to check they wanted to come back on the list and I was delighted to discover that almost everyone did. A few people said they had wondered what had happened to the mailings. If ever you notice that you are not getting these newsletters then you can always check the latest editions here: http://www.ians-studio.co.uk/photonews/ (On the menu: “For Photographers | Latest Photography Newsletter”).
I’m in the process of planning the studio programme till the end of the year… and possibly a little beyond. I’ve been concentrating on the workshops and I’m pleased to announce that I have now planned workshops all the way till the end of September, and I’m still adding more. This includes two brand new workshops one on How to use your flash and another on Boudoir. Those I know the dates for are listed in the “Full Programme” section at the end of this Newsletter. As I add others you will find them listed here: http://www.ians-studio.co.uk/forthcoming/
The main thing I want to focus on in this newsletter however is the next three Friday Night at the Studio events. This week (6th July) we have ZombieCandy (Amber) returning to the studio for a “Low Key Night” – think shadows, black backgrounds and dramatic lighting. This event will be very different to the “All in the shadows” event recently run by Rick. For a start Amber will be working up to Art Nude levels for some of the evening and we will be looking at how to use gels to colour the light.
Talking of Rick… Rick is back again on Friday 13th for an event called “1 two 3” a week later on 20th July and I’m hosting again. Another returning model: “Glamour Nude with Karen R”
Finally just a polite reminder if you are booking for workshops or Friday night events please can you do so via the appropriate page on my website it makes keep track so much easier!
For details on any of these events please read on…
Friday, 6 July 2012 , 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Location: Ian’s Studio
For tonight’s event we look at low key images. Think dark backgrounds (not always black), think shadows, think side lighting.I am pleased to announce that the model for this event will be Zombie Candy aka Amber Dolovak Amber has been to the studio twice before and has proved a big hit both times. You can see her profile on purpleport here: http://purpleport.com/
We will also look at techniques to add a little colour to the dark background including the use of gels, and using coloured background but allowing them to go dark using the inverse square law.

1 two 3 – With Rick Bradbury
Friday, 13 July 2012 , 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Location: Ian’s Studio
Tonight’s “Friday Night at the Studio” event will again be hosted by Rick Bradbury. For tonight’s Friday night event it’s time to shoot with 1 two 3 lights.I have run a One Light Night twice before at the studio, it was all about the basics of flash exposure. It’s now time to kick it up a gear and shoot starting with 1 light then moving to 2 and finally 3.
I will be on hand to set up some light sets if needed, but the idea is for you to take the bull by the horns so to speak and have at it. See what different images you can create.First hour will be shooting with 1 light, any modifier you want, inside or outside the studio (weather permitting). Experiment with light position, working distance from a background and test your self to see how many different images you can make using this simple setup. We can get you shooting pretty quick in this set as multiples lights with different modifiers can be set up ready to switch out.
Second hour (with outfit change) will be bringing in a second light. Now you have a key and a fill, or key and background light, Key light & hair light, Key light & rim light. Experiment & think outside the box.
Third Hour (with outfit change) we will add a third light opening up yet more options.
I want this event to be more about shooting some great images and experimenting with light placement, I will of course be on hand to help or answer any questions you may have.
I can’t wait to see what image you can come up with.
Oh I may need a willing volunteer to help rig lights, just so its keeps things moving fast during the evening.
Details of the model will be added soon.
Price for this great evenings shooting? £20
The ideal number will be 5 photographers, but if more sign up I will look at arranging a second model.
