Fellow Photographers,

Firstly – I still have a few places available for tonight’s table-top event, where we will have a number of different set-ups available.  Including macro photography, smoke patterns, and water splashes.  I can let canon users borrow my macro lens and/or extension tubes and I’ll also give a demo of how to use focusing rails for focus stacking.

I am starting to build up the programme for the next few months so please keep an eye on the website as more events and workshops will be added over the next few days.

Finally two appeals for help.  Firstly I need a photographer to help photograph a stage production and I am looking for reviews for the studio to be added to the Review Centre webside.  Details of both of these can be found in the the “from the blog” section of this newsletter.

So…  please read on….

Friday, 26 April 2013 – On Location with Sarah

On Location with Sarah

Location: Ian’s Studio
Time: 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Price: £25

Ian will be leading his team out in Outside Edge in Woodford tonight, so Rick is again running our weekly Friday Night at the Studio Event – here’s what he says about it….

For tonight’s Friday night event we will be working with the lovely Sarah Mansfield again, Sarah has a great personality and is always fun to work with and brings with her dance and movement skills that can be incorporated into the location shots.
Sarah’s model profile can be found below.
Purple Port http://purpleport.com/portfolio/sarahlmansfield/

Even though we have 2 parks nearby we wont be using them, instead we will work outside the studio using the surrounding industrial and urban areas.  Think if it as a photowalk / model shoot.  The feel will be urban so the clothing will match.

If you have your own Strobist gear feel free to bring it and set a shot up whilst another is being made but travel light so we can move around.

One catch with this event, I want you to set up your shot and make it.  If you need help no problem but try to get out of your comfort zone and make your image.  If you are an experienced shooter great, if not help is on hand.

The first hour will be shooting set ups I will light and demo, then it’s your floor. FYI you can still make your shot even if I have set up lights.. unsure how? Ask me on the night.

If the UK weather decides to mess us about we will either try to find shelter to work in or go back to the studio.. Don’t worry if we have to retreat back to the studio I’ve got plans for that just in case.

Gear to bring…

  • Camera
  • 1-2 lens (recommend a fast F2.8 or faster lens)
  • 1 Light or 2
  • You may want to bring a light stand – I will have 2 in the kit but bringing your own will allow you to set up a shot ready.
  • A modifier you want to use.  I will have 2 with me.

Max number is 6 so you have time to setup and shoot.  Book your place via the website quick.

Price £25 for a good nights shooting and feedback.

See you April 26th

Saturday, 18 May 2013 – Celebration Open Day

Celebration Open Day

Location: Ian’s Studio
Time: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Price: £ Free

On 19th May 2003 – I became a full-time, freelance photographer.  A little over 2 years previously I set myself the goal of going freelance before I was 40.  I made it with 4 days to spare.

To celebrate those 10 years as a freelance photographer and to celebrate my 50th birthday I am having a studio open day.

Free use of the studio facilities, plenty of chance to socialise over cups of tea and coffee.  The day is open to photographers, models, make-up artists and anyone else who knows me and who just wants to drop in.

I’m not taking booking for this, but it would really help be if you can let me know if you are coming and approximately what time.  I wouldn’t want to run out of biscuits!

Friday, 31 May 2013 – Vintage/Pin-up Night with Laura Norrey

Vintage/Pin-up Night with Laura Norrey

Location: Ian’s Studio
Time: 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Price: £29

Popular vintage/pin-up model Laura Norrey comes to Ian’s Studio tonight for her first “Friday Night at the Studio” event.

Laura has featured on posters for the Saddleworth Vintage & Handmade Fair and on the front cover of The Vintage Directory, as well as creating and modelling for a 50s pin-up charity calendar (Memory Lane), which raised over £2,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

We will be concentrating on the 1950′s for this vintage shoot – so think Hollywood Glamour, think Rock-a-billy, think pin-up!

You can see examples of Laura’s work on Purpleport: http://purpleport.com/portfolio/lauranorrey/?referrer=iansstudio and also on her facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/Laura.Norrey/photos

From the Blog…

Outside Edge

OutsideEdgeWidgetPoster

As many of you will know I am involved in a couple of local theatre groups including Woodford Players.  There latest production is “Outside Edge” a comedy about five dysfunctional couples in an equally dysfunctional local cricket team.  I am playing Roger Dervish, the captain of the team.  The play runs Wednesday to Saturday next week 24-27 April.

Why is this relevant to my photographer newsletter?  Well apart from the fact that I am trying to sell tickets to it and I would love to see some of my photographer friends at the performances (Box office number is 0161 439 7535) I need help with the photography.  The role I am playing is a major role and I hardly leave the stage throughout the play and when I do it’s not for very long so it is impossible for me to do the production photographs and I am looking for one, possibly two photographers to photograph the show on Tuesday 23rd April. This is best suited to anyone who has been on my Intermediate Photography Course and has thus been given a certain about of instruction from me on theatre photography but I would be interested in hearing from others as well.  Please get in contact if you are interested.

Finally, as I will be on stage on Friday 26th April – Rick will be running our regular Friday Night event that day – where he will be covering location photography with model Sarah Mansfield.

Review Centre

I have just signed up with the “The Review Centre” – if anyone feels able to leave a review of the studio or of me as a provider of photographic services here the link: http://www.reviewcentre.com/Photographers/Ian-s-Studio-www-ians-studio-co-uk-reviews_1945786

I believe enough in the service I provide to my clients to use a recognised, independent third party review service.  Signing up to the service means that the ONLY way I can control what people write is to provide studio and photographic services that people are happy to endorse.

Obviously I hope I will be getting good reviews, but let me take this opportunity to remind everyone that if ever you are unhappy about any part of the service I offer either as a studio or as a photographer, then please tell me and give me chance to put it right.
