Fellow Photographers,

In case you missed the news last week details of the long awaited Lightroom Version 6 have leaked on-line.  Take a look below at my thoughts on the most important features… if the rumour turns out to be true.

The is no Friday Night at the Studio event this week but while I am out of the country lecturing on photography for a few days.Rick Bradbury is running an event called “Booted and Suited” all about photographing men.  The event is on Friday 6th March.

My stock sale for this week is 0.5 of a sale.  If you want to know how that is possible or want to find out more about what’s on at the studio, please read on….

[Blog/News] Lightroom 6 Spec Leaked on-line?

Photorumours website is reporting details of the long awaited Lightroom Version 6.  I am not normally one for spreading rumours and re-posting them but this one does look quite plausible.  And if it is true then there are some new and exciting tools coming to Lightroom in the next couple of months.

You can read their article here: http://photorumors.com/2015/02/18/adobe-lightroom-6-leaked-online/

Adobe-Lightroom-61

The main new features appear to be:

  • Face Recognition.   This has been seen as something of a gimick in other image management software packages, however I can see some real uses of it in a professional environment such as my own.  I do a lot of theatre photography and it is a huge task to try to tag individuals in those images.  Occasionally I want to find images of a particular actor and can’t remember all the plays I have photographed them in.  For me the ability to use face recognition would really help in that sort of task.  Similarly working with models the ability to quickly and easily pull together all the shoots done with a particular person… ok… ok… I should be tagging them as I do them but there’s always some shoots that get missed!
  • Merging HDR images.  Would be nice to be able to do this in LR instead of having to export the images and re-import them.
  • Fusion Panoramas. The ability to merge images in to highly detailed panoramas.  Again it would be nice to see this become part of LR rather than having to export and re-import.
  • Enhanced Slideshows.  The current LR slide shows are pretty lame by current standards.  You basically have the option of cutting between images or fading.  A major update to this is well overdue.  Will it be enough to make me drop Proshow Producer?  Time will tell.
  • Performance Gains.  Yeah, well they always say that don’t they!!??

I must emphasise that these are only rumours at this stage… and so is the March 9th release date.  But certainly well worth keeping an eye on both.

Photo of the Day

POTD (11 Years ago today) Sat, 21 Feb 2004: ROME DAY TWO – The Simonetti Staircase.

The Simonetti Staircase.

ELEVEN YEARS AGO TODAY….

The weather in Rome has been bad – when we arrived we were greeted by international news teams doing features on how bad the weather was. Today we decided to head to the Vatican Museum where for most of the time we were inside.

My favourite part of the whole museum was on the way out. The famous Simonetti Staircase. It’s a double-helix design. It is often photographed from above look down. I decided to shoot from below looking up.

You can see the highlights of the Rome trip here: http://photos.imb.biz/travel/country/italy/rome

Stock Sales

For those who are interested in Stock Photography here’s some information about some of the strange and not so strange sales that I have made.

SALE 27 Apr 2005: The Urbis Museum

The Urbis Museum, in Catherdral Gardens, Manchester

NUMBER OF SALES TO DATE: 0.5
SOLD VIA: Alamy
LICENCE: Rights Managed

You may be wondering how I can possibly have had “half a sale” with this image? The image sold for the front cover of a map of Manchester (one of those pop-out pocket maps). The image was used in a mock-up the map cover and that mock-up went live on websites such as Amazon to sell the map. Unfotunately before the real map was produced the manufacturer/publish decided they wanted a different image to represent Manchester – my image of Urbis was dropped and Alamy refunded 50% of the fee. So in my book it’s a half sale.

There is a follow on to this however – the image that replaced Urbis on the cover? Was Manchester town hall, and by a very strange co-incidence, the image they chose to buy from Alamy was also mine! I guess that’s a win-win!
