- NOT 32/365 – Compass 1 February 2011
A bit of a grab shot for today’s photo. This is a tiny compass that I’ve had for years, it is no larger than a 10p piece. I fancied doing a macro shot and thought this would make a good subject. Toned in Lightroom to give an aged effect and cropped square to finish.

I was at the studio today looking at how I was going to replace the horrible blue carpet with something else. When I pulled back a corner I discovered that there is a parquet floor underneath the carpet. And it looks in pretty good condition too. All I need to know now is how to clean/sand/polish/seal/restore it.
I really hope this is possible as it would be fantastic to have a proper parquet floor which can be used as a feature in photographs.

Down at the studio again today, Iot of work to do, and I had to work quickly!! Ok, so the reality is that I’ve set up a time lapse camera to capture the work going on at the studio. This isn’t very interesting (other than the fact that you can see me work a lot faster than normal).

200 screwsBuilding the studio sets starts next week. I ordered the timber to create the smooth white walls today, and bought two hundred screws to hold it all together. Please… no jokes about me screwing up the studio… I will however allow you to start a discussion THREAD! (sorry).
The lighting is really very simple two speedlights, one either side. Similar output levels. The one on the left had an orange gel on it, the one on the right a blue gel.

A trip to the cinema this evening and I thought I’d try a camera spin shot with the light in the trees. Didn’t really work as I wanted and I didn’t have time to spend any longer on it, so it will have to do.

I need to get the carpet which is glued to the studio floor pulled up so that restoration of the floor can start at the end of this week. After two hours working at this single handed this is as far as I’ve got… well this far plus a blister on my thumb!
The problem is it just needs more people. Three or four people pulling at the carpet while one or two more scrape at the glue and it should come up relatively easily… well relatively compared to me trying to do it by myself. So if you can spare a couple of hours on Wednesday evening to come down to the studio and give me a hand, I be very grateful.

OleannaStockport Garrick has a studio theatre space. This is a performance of Oleanna – the very first play to be performed in the space. Rather unusually for me I was taking some photographs during a live performance. Normally I only photography during the dress rehearsal but on this occasion I had to make an exception. The theatre wanted images showing the studio ‘in use’. So after photographing the dress rehearsal as normal I returned to the theatre and took a few shots while the audience was watching. So that it didn’t have an impact on the audiance. I stood out of the way (behind the bar) and only took a handful of shots at the start of each scene – so that the sound of the camera was not a distraction.
