SamI’ve been somewhat uninspired so far this year when it comes to taking “Photos of the Day”.
I’m clearly getting desperate as today’s photo is a picture of one of the cats!

King KongSaw the original King Kong film today. I’d recorded it when it was on TV over Christmas. It has been a long while since I’d last seen it.
Considering it was made in 1933 the special effects were excellent. Having recently seen Peter Jackson’s remake I was expecting the effects to be almost comical in comparison. However they have actually stood the test of time exceptionally well.

Settlers of CatanIt was the first meeting of the Games Club today. I’ve been planing this for the last couple of months: a regular (fortnightly) games club meeting in our church hall. I thought for the first meeting, if we got 8 people I’d be quite content. 12 I’d be very pleased. As it turned out we had 28!

When ever I set up for a portrait session I place an object against the background just to test the exposure. The last session I did I used white foam head which we use as a ‘stand’ for our hi-fi headphones. For some reason that currently escapes this ‘head’ is currently wearing a fez as well as headphones.
As I was processing some of the images from that shoot today, I came accross this shot – a little over exposed as you can’t see the white head on the white background. However the shot does have a certain post-modern quality about it.

- POTD 18 Jan 2006: Oldham Coliseum 18 January 2006
Oldham ColiseumI went over to Oldham (NW Manchester) this afternoon/evening. The purpose of the visit was to go to a workshop on “Writing for the BBC” at the Oldham Coliseum. It was a very useful and informative evening, but don’t hold your breath waiting for any of my material to be performed by the Beeb – the competition is just immense.
I took the opportunity durring the visit to get a few night shots of Oldham.

Sweet hearts displayed on a lightboxI couldn’t originally post this POTD image on the day I took it. I took it to be the photograph on a valentines day card for Ann. But now that time has passed since that card was made and delivered. I can now share the image as one of my POTDs.

Boxing GlovesTomorrow I have a photo session with a model! Actually the model is the daughter of a family I photographed last year and she’s a natural. I’ve been working out what shots I’m going to take. Ann suggested a shot with the model wearing boxing gloves might make a good stock photo. You know – knock out sales etc etc.
We went down to our local sports superstore to get a pair of boxing gloves to use as photographic props. As we were at the till Ann asked me if I was paying for the boxing gloves out of my business account. I assured her I was as it is a legitimate business expense. The sales assistant looked bemused – I guess he thought I must have a very strange staff management technique!

Ow, my head hurts!I had an accident in the shower this morning. We have a problem with back mold in our shower, as I was trying to clean it off the sealent I banged my head on the ceramic soap dish and shattered it (the dish, not my head!).
As a result a significant portion of today has been spent chipping the broken dish off the wall, and sticking in a replacement tile. I also took the opportunity to remove the moldy sealent, and then resealing the shower.
This was not the way I had hoped to be spending the day, because as you may have read yesterday I was due to have a session photographing a model today – unfortunately we had to postpone it as she isn’t feeling too well and we’ve rescheduled for next month. So instead of creating stock images of a beautiful girl, I only got to photograph a broken soap dish…. somehow I doubt there is much of a market such pictures.
Ho hum!

n, a book explaining wordsI didn’t know quite what to put as today’s photograph of the day. I’ve been coding a website for one of my webhosting customers and a page of HTML/PHP doesn’t really make for an interesting photograph.
I’ve been watching “Balderdash and Piffle” recently on TV. I saw a bit of an an episode this lunch time. For those who don’t know the program it is all about the meaning of words.
That gave me an idea – out came the dictionary this evening and “hey-presto!” (int. conjuror’s formula, calling attention) I have a photo of the day… and hopefully one that will make a good stock photo.

St. Paul’s, Heaton MoorThis coming Sunday there won’t be a service at St. Martin’s (the church we normally go to). Instead the local Anglican churches are having a combined service at St. Paul’s, Heaton Moor.
Yesterday, evening I was at our “Cell Group” (A home based Bible study group within our church…. no I don’t like the name either!). One of the members of that Group, Don, was asking about the service:
“Where is St. Paul’s, Heaton Moor?”, He asked.
“It’s on the corner of St. Paul’s Road and Heaton Moor Road.” We told him.
Somehow the description just didn’t sound that helpful! So today’s Picture of the Day is for you, Don. This is a picture of the building you are looking for. It was looking particularly picturesque in the setting sun this afternoon. Unfortunately I can’t promise it will look like that on Sunday.
And if you still aren’t sure here’s a map too: St Paul’s, Heaton Moor

SignpostI’ve recently discovered Wayfaring. Those who read yesterday’s diary entry may have noticed that I created a Wayfaring ViewPoint to show where St. Paul’s church is in Heaton Moor.
It occured to me that combining Wayfaring and this photo diary might make an effective way of showing off my Travel Photography. So when a photograph in the diary has a specific location, I’ll try to also add it to My Wayfaring Map and link the map to the diary entry and vice-versa. I’ll probably plot some of the past diary entries but mainly I’ll add the locatons of new entries (when there is a location to add).
So what to use as today’s picture of the day then? Well, what can be more appropriate than a signpost!
So to view the Wayfaring Waypoint for this signpost and find out where it is – click here.

BookshopI’m currently thinking about Tunisia as my next overseas photo trip. I’m looking for a copy of “The Insight Guide : Tunisia“. This afternoon I decided to go and look for it a book shop that I’ve been going to for over 15 years.
The shop is in Cheadle and can be best described as being full of character! The upper floor of the shop is crammed with books of all types and ages. Over the years I have had quite a lot of science fiction books from this shop and it is often possible to find SF books here that are tricky to track down elsewhere.
Sadly for me on this visit – if they did have the Insight Guide in stock – I couldn’t find it!

As a result this picture has been chosen as my Picture of the Day today for no other reason than it was the random image that ended up on my PC wallpaper!
