  • POTD Tue, 1 Mar 2005: Windmill on the sea-front 1 March 2005

    Windmill on the sea-front

I was up in Lytham St Annes today and took the opportunity to get some images of the famous windmill.

There a a couple of things that help make this image work. For anyone who has heard me talk about in photographs composition you should be able to identify, the use of contrasts, filling the frame, strong diagonals and lead-in lines as techniques to focus attention within the image. It is also taken from a non-stadard ‘worms eye’ perspective.

Three Sisters Recreation Area, East side of Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan. Previously the Garswood Hall Colliery.

I recieved a request via Photographers Direct for images of Three Sisters Recreation area. So I used it as an excuse to go over to Wigan to photograph the park.

2015 Update – I have now reprocessed this images using Color Efex Pro to bring out the detail, add a bit of warmth and finish it with a vignette.
