Recent Events

Here are the details of the last ten events at Ian’s Studio.  We maintain this list so that photographers can look up details of the events they attended.  If you need to find an older event please visit the Event Archives

If a model was working at the event, then you will probably be able to find her portfolio mentioned on the event listing.  Most portfolio listing sites permit registered photographers to contact the models through the site.  If you have some great images from the event, I always try to encourage photographers to share those images with the models who made them possible.

If you missed an event or enjoyed an event and would like to see it rerun at the studio please let me know.

At this session, we will be looking at creating glamour images with a messy aspect to them.  During the three hour session, we will shoot two major sessions including our infamous spaghetti setup.  If there is time we may be able to shoot a third messy setup that doesn’t require such a major cleanup for our model.

The setups for this evening will appeal to who like to shoot ‘wet and messy’ (sploshing) but the emphasis will be on creating good images which are well lit, well posed and well composed.  As such the event should have a much wider appeal and be suitable for all photographers who enjoy shooting glamour.

The model for this event will be Simplyb https://purpleport.com/portfolio/beffers95/?referrer=ianbutty

If you would like to see images created at some of our previous messy events you can follow the links below.  The Soft Gentle set and the Axa Jay set both include the spaghetti set up.  Please note that the images in all these albums are definitely not safe for work

When I ran this event on May 11th it sold out and several photographers were unable to attend.  As a result, I am rerunning the event and extending the shooting time.

At this event, we will be looking at four different types of water event.  The approximate timings are:

  • 10:30 – 12:00 – Shower set 1 – with umbrella and clothed / wetlook
  • 12:00 – 13:15  – Model splash
  • 13:15 – 13:45 – Lunch
  • 13:45 – 14:45 – Clear slime
  • 14:45 – 16:00 – Shower set 2 – nude/soap/more wetlook

The event will last for 5hrs 30mins – including a 30min lunch break in the middle.  Please bring your own sandwiches – I can provide tea/coffee and biscuits.

Using the shower set-up we will be able to create a rain effect (see the image in the eFlyer) and create a tradition shower effect.  At this event, our model will be working both clothed and nude.

We will be creating the following images:

  • Model under an umbrella in the rain
  • Model in wet clothing in the rain
  • Wet clothing (see-through) glamour images in the rain and in the shower
  • Nude model with soap showering

Remember that when using the shower the rain effect is genuine and does NOT need to be added in post-production.

The model for this event will be Georgia Brown https://purpleport.com/portfolio/georgiaiaxox/?referrer=ianbutty

The model splash set will be all about creating images of a model having water thrown or poured on her.  You can see some example images here: http://photos.imb.biz/model/shoot/bexsplash & here:  http://photos.imb.biz/model/shoot/scarlett-splash and a YouTube video about that type of shoot here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJY7Oa5J2BU

Bring images to be critiqued.  Get answers to photography questions.  See how YOUR photos can be enhanced in post-production.

The format of the session is simple, come with images.  They don’t have to be your best images, the session works best with images that didn’t quite work – and perhaps you don’t know why.  Come with photography related questions, is there a technique you want to understand, is there some photography advice you need.

We will load images into Adobe Lightroom, and go through them, looking at them projected on the studio wall.  We talk about what works and what can be improved.  If appropriate we then look at post-production techniques that can be used to enhance the images.

Interspersed between the images, I will do my best to answer your photography questions, explaining techniques and helping you learn new skills.  Perhaps you have the solution to someone else’s photo issues and can help them.  There will be a chance to share and help each other too.

Not only will you get answers to your own questions and advice on how to improve your photographs, but you get to hear the questions and answers from other photographers.  It should all make for a fun evening where we can all learn more.  This event will be free for Academy Members but there will be a charge of £9 for non-members.

A minimum of two photographers booking will be required to run this event.

Don’t forget, Academy Members get in for  FREE (and save £9).

We have the pleasure of welcoming Becky Kvittems to Ian’s Studio for this evening’s event.  Becky describes herself on her profile as “a totally bonkers, outspoken, mad person…” so this should be a great opportunity to create some exciting and quirky images.   The aim of the evening is to help photographers build their portfolios and to learn new photography techniques.

You can find Becky’s profile here: https://purpleport.com/portfolio/beckykvittems

We will be creating images with character to them.  We will cover a range of lighting styles but we will definitely be including film noir.  Other techniques will be different ways to light the background including the use of gobos and gels.

All the set-ups we will be shooting this evening will be SFW (Safe For Work).

If we don’t receive your ideas – Karen and I will choose three or four of our own!

Another is our ad-hoc series of table-top event.  At this event, we will be looking at a number of post-production techniques to improve your table top photography.

The techniques we will be looking at include:

  • Focus stacking – where you create multiple images as different focus positions and combine them in post production (see image on eFlyer for an example)
  • 360deg images – creating multiple images of an object/product on a turntable to produce an animated gif (See below)
  • Camera tethering – if you use canon or nikon you will be able to have a go at tethered shooting – other cameras may or may not be supported

As ever for the table top nights bring your tripod (although I do have ones you can borrow), if you have macro lenses or extension tubes please bring those too (I have canon versions that people can borrow).

A minimum of Three photographers booking will be required to run this event.
