Lucky shot on plane?

My goal was to get a facepicture of my wife before the window.
But I got a silhouette instead.
Not bad, but unintended.

Hi Ed,
Thanks for sharing the image. Dropbox won’t let you embed images so I have grabbed a copy, but it on one of my servers and linked in into the post – hope that’s ok with you.

Really odd, that you should post about ‘lucky’ shots like this. I am currently writing Thursday’s blog post and the theme of it is ‘luck’ when it comes to photography. I saw you thread title and for a brief moment I thought my blog post had gone live before I had even written it!

I will add my thoughts about this image in a little while. But for now let me just say that I like it!

Hi Ed,
Just realised I haven’t added the additional comment that I promised here.

I really like this shot – whether it was ‘lucky’ or not ultimately doesn’t matter. I think the post production work on it works well. And while there is plenty of ‘noise’ probably due to the high ISO I think this adds to the atmosphere of the image – it looks like a ‘vintage’ black and white film image.

The only thing I would suggest is that you crop out the seat back on the right of the image as it doesn’t add anything to the overall composition.

The challenge for you now is to work out how to reproduce this ‘lucky’ shot next time you are flying.
