Arbia Roman Fort

We spent today doing part of South Tyneside, including Whitburn, the Souter Lighthouse, and Arbeia – the roman fort.

Arbeia is a really interesting place, with a museum, archeological digs and reconstructions of various Roman building… actually built on the historical remains.  The only problem with the place is that it is an absolute swine of a place to find.  The road signs for it are awful and in places misleading.  It leaves you “Roman”… er sorry… Roaming round in circles.

We didn’t go back direct to the campsite but took in a film on the way back.  When we did get back to our tent, we had a bit of a surprise awaiting for us.  But more on that in tomorrow’s entry.
