Will Scarlett’s Grave or Just a pile of bricks?
13 May 2006
Images in this photo diary are being posted about two weeks late! Please bear with me… all the entries for all the days do exist… but rather than swamp you with two weeks worth of pictures in one go I’m uploading several images each day until I manage to catch up. (And I am gradually catching up at last!). Don’t forget to use the ‘previous’ link to ensure you don’t miss any!
Today’s theme – Robin Hood Country. (A selection of images from my recent visit to Nottinghamshire).
5 May – Will Scarlett’s Grave
In St. Mary’s church, Blidworth, there is this rather unusual pile of stones. It is reputed to be the grave of Robin Hood’s merry man, Will Scarlett. To me is looks like a collection of masonary that used to belong to an earlier church that stood on the site. (One wall of the old church still stands near this ‘grave’). But to be fair… calling it “Will Scarlett’s Grave” is likely to generate far more tourist trade than calling it “a pile of stones from an old church” ever would.
