Yad Vashem – Memorial to the holocaust
In Israel one of the most moving places I have visited is the Yad Vashem – the holocaust memorial. It is a vast park of different memorials to the 6 Million Jews who died at the hands of the Nazis.
This image is of one of the main memorial halls. In this dark room an eternal flame burns in a shaft of daylight. On the floor are the names of the death camps written in Hebrew and in English.
For more information about Yad Vashem you can visit their website at http://www1.yadvashem.org/about_yad/index_about_yad.html
For the photographers viewing this – the image was taken on colour negative film, scanned and all areas except the flame, and the flowers in front of it converted to black and white.
