Lunar eclipse sequence
There was a total eclipse of the moon tonight. I went out into the garden and photographed this sequence of images as the earth’s shadow fell across the lunar surface.
The top row of images is exposed correctly for the light part of the moon. The bottom row of images is exposed correctly for the section in shadow. When the moon is in total eclipse it appears blood red.
The timetable for future lunar eclipses can be found at:

Absolutely stunning.

Hello Ian, We saw the eclipse from near St Davids in Pembrokeshire, Wales and it looked just like your photos, but not red. Here it just seemed grey. We looked with binoculars and took pics with a small digital camera, but of course, they are no good. Your pics are excellent! Please can you tell me which part of the country you are in? I wanted to send images to my young grand daughters, who were all safely tucked up in bed at the time, and all the pics I found were taken from other parts of the word and didn’t reflect what we saw last night. Thank you for yours.
Best wishes Gloria
Looks like Joel was right!
