Portrait of Ann
Ann has been asked to supply an up to date photo of herself for a the C3 website. So today I got the chance to try out an interesting portrait technique.
Normally you would need a photographers assistant when using this trick but as my assistant was the subject I had to use a tripod and timer so I could be both photographer and assistant.
Here’s the trick. Put your flash gun on a hot-shoe cable and get your assistant to hold it in one hand pointing at the subject. In the other hand the assistant holds a reflector/diffuser (set up as a diffuser) between the flash and the subject. The flash is then defussed in a very similar way to a soft box. Giving a very flattering lighting effect with the absolute minimum of shadows.

So how does a photo booth work, where there’s only a subject and no photographer?
Michael…. Answer: badly… very badly! ;-)
Our Daughter-in-law doesn’t need any portrait technique, photographer’s assistant, diffussers, fill-in flash, tripod tripe and all that photo pharafinailia. Just take the photo with any old “box” camera and she’ll come out just lovely every time…So there…
