I have this image posted on flickr. In the last four months I have had two messages sent to me via comments on this photo… both of the people want me contact them. One has signed off: “hoping to hear from you with lots of loves“, the other simply writes “love u to be my friend. if intrested reply back“. I wonder if both of these men – yes the comments are both from men – realise that I am a 47 year old male…. and I am very happily married!
The clue is there on flick, guys – the photograph is copyright “Ian M Butterfield”, the id is “Ian M Butterfield”, the profile describes who I am. I am the photographer…. I am not the model!!
Both messages are from men looking for ‘love’ – actually I think they are looking for something else but ‘love’ is as good a euphemism to use as any other. If this is the way they go about it… I hope the don’t find love. If they can’t distinguish between a middle-aged male photographer and a female model, if they can’t think to look at the name or profile of the person they try to contact… then I really, really don’t want them to find ‘love’. I don’t mean them any harm but I would not want to see their genetic material passed down in to humanity’s gene pool!
I think this blog post was really a sweet beginning to a potential series of posts about this topic. Most writers act like they know what they are preaching about when it comes to this area and generally, very few people actually get it. You seem to really dominate it though, so I think you ought to start writing more. Thank you!
