This was a photograph from last weeks "Friday Night at the Studio" event. Helen, our model, was amazing…. she actually held this pose for about 15 minutes while all the photographers at the event got a photograph of her! Not only that she didn't even break in to a sweat over it!
Lighting was very simple two softboxes – one key light and and one fill light.

+Phillip Harnden Hi Philip, if you are viewing the photo in the photo viewer…. you will find some information is in the original G+ post: https://plus.google.com/106287665062204946341/posts/5a8YS2gBshm – but not all!! I am deliberately being vague about it. I will probably post more images from this shoot tomorrow along with a little bit more explanation. So keep watching my G+ stream.

Has anyone worked out the secret behind Helen's ability to hold this pose yet?

I'm guessing she's only tilted and not fully inverted.

The "wall" is the floor??
+Philip Daly I will give you a chance to change your mind about that suggestion. Take a look at these images from different shoots with a different models and tell me if you still think the wall is the floor… https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-o8ZM08TvwHI/TlLdrRwyleI/AAAAAAAAAdE/rv2CRX3-B9I/s720/p652927452-5%255B1%255D.jpg and http://photos.imb.biz/models/shoot/strawberryvenom2/h2b0bbc7f#h38c260d5

Ok, there's an inconsistency in her clothing at the waist. The wallpaper is the same orientation as the photos you posted. So, you hung the poor girl upside down with a harness??

+Philip Daly No harness used. BTW for those who don't know me well. I choose my words very carefully at times… in particular one reply on this thread was very carefully written to avoid giving the game away! ;-)

Hmm, this is going to bug me now :). Standard shot? No compositing? No harness and she ain't holding herself up on one finger. Yet the answer is "Much simpler than that". I have a feeling it's really obvious

The wall and floor are an L-shape you normally put against the wall. In this case the wall is flat on the floor.
The evidence…
The pose is impossible as shown.
The chair is right against the wall/floor. As in touching; which would support it.
The hair is against wall/floor and again supported.
The pulled down edge of the top is a nice touch but consistent / not defying gravity with the wall being down.
Oh and Ian has denied this only offered a chance to go off track.
Or that's my vote anyway.

Haven't totally figured it out yet but I suspect John Ashton is on the right lines… the wall might not be the floor, but the 'floor' isn't the floor in the studio either – I'm pretty sure that's parquet blocks.

I say the wall is a flat. A movable piece that can be used anywhere for a backdrop. If you look at the floor of the second picture as the comparison you'll notice that the floor is in a herringbone pattern while this one is slats. My vote is the "wall" is laid down and the flooring (possibly another set piece) is what is vertical.
Maybe, maybe not but definitely fun to speculate!

Ok, ok… time to spill the beans on this one. +John Ashton has got it more or less spot on… however…. he does have an unfair advantage, he has been to my studio and knows that the I have removable/moveable wall panels… exactly as +Kenrick Fischer has described. The clue was in the second of the images that I linked to in that you can see that the floor is parquet blocks. This was pointed out by +Andy Grady (who also has the advantage of having been to the studio). In the balance photo the 'floor' is actually two table tops which have a wood grain on them which are placed against the real wall. My apologies to +Philip Daly for misleading him – he was actually the first person to guess the secret… which (despite what John says) I never denied his suggestion…. I just pointed you all at two images designed to make you doubt what had been suggested (although I did pick one that showed the real floor as a clue). You can see the set up here: http://photos.imb.biz/model/shoot/falseperspective/e3eba58d6 – This was the set up we used to create the following image: http://photos.imb.biz/model/shoot/falseperspective/e39666f13
