Restaurant table under a rubber plant tree in the garden of Hacienda San Jorge
A lazy day round the hotel after the previous day’s walk. I took some time to go round the hotel grounds to get a few images of where we’re staying.
This image uses a number of techniques. I needed to balance the daylight on the pool area with the light under the rubber plant tree. I used my speedlight on a 3m TTL lead and to place the light as far off to the right as I could manage. This avoids the flat lighting of having the light coming from the same direction as the camera.
I also tried to defuse the light from the flash as much as possible but this still created some shadows. In post production I used lightroom to ‘open up’ the shadows and give a slight boost the the saturation.
