First thing I wish to do in this newsletter is to wish you all a very happy Easter.
The next thing I want to do is highlight the next four events/workshops at the studio. First up is our full day “Antidote to the royal wedding – Trash the dress shoot”, next Friday (29th April). The two Fridays following I’m handing over to two different guest event leaders at the studio. Rick Bradbury will lead a “One light night” on 6th May and the following week (13th May) Diane Seddon will lead an event showing you how to photograph people “falling with style”. Between those two events I have the long awaited “Art Nude” workshop on Sunday 8th May.
Read on for more information about these events…..
Friday 29 April – Trash the Dress, an Antidote to a Royal Wedding
10.00am till 4.00pm
Fed up with the Royal Wedding? Want an excuse to get away from it? Come to our “Trash the Dress” shoot.
I am please to announce that our lead model for this event will be Randi Imzadi – You can see her purestorm profile here: http://www.purestorm.com/Randiimzadi
We will use some of the “urban decay” locations close to the studio for the first part of this event, which will see our model(s) climbing rusty fire-escapes, posing in front of shipping containers and sitting on crumbling walls.
Later in the day we will head up to the local parks where we will set up shots of the models lying in the fallen cherry blossom, climbing in the trees and hopefully splashing in a fountain too.
In the event of bad weather we will still do some work outside – such as models jumping and splashing in puddles before escaping the rain back in the studio, where we will finish trashing the dress(es) using with some paint based images.
We currently have four photographers booked for this event. I will be booking additional models if required…. so the more photographers who book, the more models we will have to shoot!
Price: £55 (does NOT include lunch… but the sandwich shop opposite the studio will be open)
Friday 6th May – One Light Night

At this Friday Night at the Studio session, Ian will be handing over to, “New to Photo” podcast host Rick Bradbury……
Hi everyone Rick here.
This event will follow one rule.. Keep it simple and off camera.
I will be showing how to create some great portraits using just one light, be it a small speedlite which many of you may own or studio lights that you will find in a studio like Ian’s.
Why only one light?
- Well is cheaper than 2,3,4,5… you get the idea.
- You gotta start somewhere right?
- Starting Simple = One Light
- It will get the job done, corporate head shot, couple portrait, group portrait or individual portrait. They can all be lit by just One Light.
Sunday 8th May – Art Nude Workshop
At this workshop I will demonstrate a number of art nude set-ups. There will be printed notes detailing the lighting set-ups being used.
The day will be suitable for those who are a little unsure about where to start with art nude photography; but time will be built into the day to enable more experienced photographers to build on these set-ups.
I will be booking an established female art-nude model who will be working with us through out the day. I hope to also book a male art-nude model for the afternoon session. Subject to both models being willing we will finish the afternoon session by looking at some set-ups incorporating both models.
There will be opportunities to create high-key (white background) images, low-key (black background) images and bodyscape images. A large selection of props will be available to enhance the images and to help inspire you with ideas.
Cost £82 per person (this includes lunch and printed notes).
Friday 13th May – Falling With Style

Another guest host for this week’s event. Oaktree Photography‘s Diane Seddon will be leading this event.
Di will be guiding attendees through various techniques to create images of people apparently in mid-fall or looking as though they are defying gravity.
