Fellow photographers,

In this newsletter I want to focus of three workshops that I have planned, and give a quick plug to this week and next weeks Friday Night at the Studio Events.

A few months ago a lot of people asked me to rerun my Lightroom Training Day.  I added it to the calendar and announced it, I have had some interest in the event but not a great deal.  If you are one of the people who asked to rerun it please note it is tomorrow (Saturday 22nd October), and I won’t be running it again for sometime – there are plenty of spaces available please phone/email me ASAP if you wish to come.

The other workshops that people asked me to rurun are the Introduction to Studio photography and the Introduction to Wedding Photography Workshop.  Again I have taken some bookings for these but I still have plenty of spaces available.

Form more details of all the workshops and the Friday Night events, read on…..

Introduction to Studio Photography Workshop

In this workshop we look at a number of simple studio lighting techniques starting with zero lights (using only window light) up to using four lights.  We also look at some basic techniques for posing subjects and for working with models.

We will look at how different light modifiers such as umbrellas, softboxes, snoots, grids and gels can be used.  There will be time during the day for you to practise these techniques with the help of a professional model.  We will cover basic posing techniques which are suitable for photographing friends, family, customers or even models.   We will also look at the biggest cheat of all for posing people in the studio – the use of props.

Printed notes to document the techniques we will look at during the day will be provided and a buffet lunch is included in the price of the event.  Numbers will be limited to 6 photographers and we will have a professional models as our subject.

RERUN: Introduction to Wedding Photography Workshop

Saturday, 12 November 2011 , 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Location: Ian’s Studio
Introduction to Wedding Photography Workshop

At some point all photographers get asked to photograph a wedding – even if it is on an informal basis just as a favour for a friend.  This workshop will introduce you to what is involved.

While taking the photographs is relatively straightforward what scares most photographers is the fact that you have limited time and only have one chance at a wedding.  In this workshop we give special emphasis on the ‘stage management’ role that a wedding photographer has to assume.

We look at the planning side, and how to make sure things run smoothly from a photographic perspective.  We go through the day looking at different scenes that wedding photographers have to photograph.

We conclude the workshop with the chance to photograph bride and groom models.

(Please note: 4 or more attendees are required to be able to book both bride and groom models.  If there are 2 or 3 attendees on the workshop we will only have a bride model to shoot.  With only 1 attendee I can still run the workshop as a one-to-one training session but would not be able to offer the chance to shoot).

Cost £69 (Includes lunch and notes)

Glamour Nude Night

Friday, 21 October 2011 , 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Glamour Nude Night

Working with one or two established glamour models (depending on the number of photographers booking) we will use tonight’s session to work on a number of glamour nude poses and images.

I am thrilled to announce that our lead model for this event will be the exceptionally multi-talented Portia Victoria.  Not only is Portia a very talented model she is a professional opera singer and Shakespearian actor!

You can see Portia’s modelling profile on ModelMayhem: http://www.modelmayhem.com/800860# (As you might expect, there is some tasteful nudity).

Want to put a model in a jam jar?  This is the session for you.  We will look at techniques for achieving this including in camera and using two shots and the absolute minimum of photoshop work.

Lightroom News : Lightroom v3.5 is available

This is old news but worth mentioning all the same, Adobe release the latest update to Lightroom on 28th September.  It is a free upgrade to all users of Lightroom 3.

As is usually the case with Lightroom “point upgrades” the primary purpose of the upgrade is to support new camera raw format.  However there are some significant bug-fixes in this release too.  Of there are the usual round of minor bug fixes too.

Camera News : Canon announces the 1D X

For anyone who missed it early this week Canon have announced their new flagship camera.  The Canon EOS-1D X.  This replaces the current 1D and 1Ds range of cameras.

The spec of the new, camera which, doesn’t hit the shops till March 2012 is very impressive:

But the price tag of £5299 is not for the feint-hearted.

Me?  I’m still waiting for the 5D Mark III to be announced!
