Fellow photographers,

A lot can happen in just a few days, and I want to give you an update to a couple of the events at that are happening at the studio.

Introduction to DSLR Photography

Firstly a change to the “Introduction to DSLR Photography” course.  The course was due to start tonight but we have had to postpone the first session till Wednesday (12th September at 7.30pm).  Following this subsequent sessions will revet to Monday evenings as previously advertised. This does mean that there is still time for you or anyone you know to book on to this course

Unfortunately we are unable to run the night photography workshop this Autumn due the the church we normally use being unavailable on the night we had planned.  The workshop will be rescheduled for the spring.

Friday 14th September 7pm till 11pm
MUA Night: The Bold and the Beautiful

his Friday night’s event is different to – a chance to work with three models and one make-up artist (MUA).  In order to keep the cost down for this event the three models are working on a “time for” basis and you will be expected to provide images to the three models and to Zoe the MUA.

There are also opportunities to take “before” images (subject to model agreement) and once the first two models have done their main shoot they will be available for one-to-one strobist shoots outside the studio.

For more information about the models and to book for this event please see: http://www.ians-studio.co.uk/events/mua-night-the-bold-and-beautiful/

Useful Links

Occasionally I come across information which I think is worth sharing…

For those photographers who shoot babies
You might want to have a read of this article. Some hints and tips and some very, very important advice about keeping the little ones safe while you get the shots…. http://www.babyrabies.com/2012/02/dont-be-hanging-babies-from-trees-a-newborn-photography-safety-lesson-from-jennifer-dell/

For those photographers who shoot models
I keep getting asked about “Purpleport” – I often link to model portfolios on there and these days it is now my website of choice when booking models and arranging shoots.  The site has two levels of membership free and paid for.  The paid for version only consts £24 for a whole year which is less than most of it’s competitors and it gives more features.  If you want to check it out follow this link first: http://purpleport.com/portfolio/ianbutty/?referrer=ianbutty  (it will take you to my profile) and then sign up for a free trial (and I get a free months membership if you sign up for a trial too!)

For those photographers who want a website
People have been asking me recently about websites for hosting photo galleries.  I use Zenfolio (http://www.zenfolio.com/).  You can find my gallery site here: http://photos.imb.biz/ – Depending on the package you subscribe to you can host images, sell them directly to clients, build a blog and even build your whole website.  I don’t use the blog and website feature but I know plenty of photographers who do and they have great looking sites.  You can sign up for a free months trial and if you decide you want to continue use code: “CTF-QQB-AXS” and you will get £5 off the annual subscription!

For those photographers who use facebook
There are a lot of groups and communities on facebook for photographers but I want to give “Aperture Dramatic” as quick mention.  Aperture Dramatic is a small but friendly bunch of photographers who are frequently sharing information with each other and when asked give meaningful critiques of images (and not just likes and “cool image”).  It is a closed group which means you can’t see what is posted their until you are approved.  But you can ask to join and you will be quickly approved by one of the mods.  You’ll have no trouble getting in… after all they let me in!  You can find the group here: http://www.facebook.com/groups/165857493473510/ if you can’t find the request to join option let me know and I’ll get one of the admins to add you.
