Just Add Water

The theme for tonight’s Friday Night at the Studio event is “Just Add Water” we will be looking at different styles of model photography that incorporate water as part of the image. This will include capturing the splash as water is poured on to the model, wetlook glamour including wet clothing and wet hair. Hopefully it will also be possible to create some shower based images too.

Our model for this event will be working to topless levels (possibly nude).

Saturday, 11 October 2014 – Messy Day with Maude

Another of our full-day messy days at the studio. This time with model Maude. At this event you have the chance to create photographs or video with a messy theme to them.

Typically at these days there will chances to shoot at least four different messy set-ups and scenarios. At past events these have included art nude with multicoloured slime, messy diner, messy decorator, game show with forfeits.

The set-ups will be tailored to suit the type of “Wet and Messy” styles the attendees wish to wish to shoot. It is expected that a significant number of the set-ups will appeal to photographers who enjoy shooting “splosh” / WAM fetish images.

I am very pleased to announce that Maude has agreed to model for this event. Maude is a regular at the studio and is no stranger to messy shoots. At previous group events organised by Ian’s Studio Maude has been covered in fake blood at a horror themed shoot and covered in mud at a trash the dress shoot. http://photos.imb.biz/model/shoot/maude-ttd

Maude will be getting messy both fully clothed and fully nude.

Please note that we are working with messy substances at this shoot and it is advisable that photographers wear old clothes, just in case!

In March model Amy Pulford came to the studio for a 1920’s evening. This proved to be a huge success and Amy’s attention to detail when it comes to her outfits and make-up is second to none. This October Amy will return to the studio for a full day. The theme will be “Through the Decades”. Each set we shoot will be based on a different decade starting with the 1920’s through to the present day.

To help with the changes we will have an MUA joining us at this event. We are aiming to shoot 7 or 8 different decades at this shoot. We will attempt to include as many as possible of the following:

1940’s – War-time Land Girl
1950’s – Classic Swimsuit Pin-up

Thursday, 23 October 2014 – Essential Art Nude Course

Essential Art Nude Course

Location: Ian’s Studio
Time: 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM

This six session course covers all the essential techniques you need to create great studio based art nude images. In each session we will work with a different art nude model. The course runs on Thursday Evenings starting on 23rd October 2014.

Over the course of the six weeks we will look at the following:

Lo-key (black background) – including one-light and sandwich lighting set-ups
Grey background work – with a greater emphasis on the way the model poses
Bodyscapes and body parts
Working with props
Silhouettes
Erotic nude

No previous experience of studio work is required.

In order to give participants the opportunity of working with different models on different techniques, rather than spending a whole session on one of the above topics, we will look at three topics each session, returning to some of them multiple times throughout the course. This will give you the chance to photograph each model in three different lighting set-ups.

In each session we will introduce two or three new lighting set-ups. Each lighting set-up will be fully documented with lighting diagrams, behind the scene shots and example images. So that you can use the notes to recreate the set-ups in the future.

In order to improve your studio skills, course participants will be encouraged to help set-up lights and backgrounds.

The course requires a minimum of FOUR photographers to run at the advertised price. The maximum number of photographers on this course will be six.

[BLOG] On-line booking problems resolved

iansstudio-booking graphic Over the last couple of months I have had reports from a handful of people who have had problems registering for events via the website. I have been investigating the problems and I believe the problems have been caused by a number of factors. I have now made two significant changes to the website’s configuration to try to resolve the problem.

The first change resolves a problem some users were having when resetting their account passwords. Despite entering their email address they were not receiving the email with the reset link. I now believe this has been corrected.

If you need to reset your password and/or find out your username on the website you can do so here:

http://www.ians-studio.co.uk/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword Or by using the “Lost your password?” link on the right hand side of the booking screen. Enter either you email address (or your username). A password reset link will be emailed to you along with your username if you don’t know it.

The second problem a handful of users have seen is that after entering their correct credential a server error stating “This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested.” was displayed. While I have not been able to prove it conclusively I believe this was probably due to a cashe problem on the server and I’ve excluded the login script from that process. If you do see that error again please let me know.

If you have any problems booking for events at the studio please let me know and I will do a manual booking for you.

[BLOG] Videocast 011 – Creating the Ice Bucket Challenge Photo

About a month ago I was challenged to do the Ice Bucket Challenge. Which I did, and I posted my video to YouTube – if you haven’t seen it you can find theactual challenge video here. I have also embedded it at the end of this blog post.

As I did the challenge I created this photograph of me doing the challenge…

I have received a lot of questions about how I managed to create that image. It was always my intention to explain how it was done, and at the time I did the challenge I shot extra video footage explaining the process. I took the decision that I didn’t want to release that video at the time of the challenge as the challenge is about raising money for charity not about photography techniques.

A month later I feel an appropriate amount of time has passed and I can release it. If you do find the tutorial interesting or useful please consider giving to the three charities that I mention in the video. Their websites are:
