Fellow Photographers,I need your help. If you look at the ‘forthcoming events’ section of the studio website at the moment it is looking pretty sparse. I have actually got lots of ideas for events but I want to make sure that my ideas are for events you want to come to.

Let me be honest with you. Recently I have had a few events that have not run because I have not had sufficient people booking for them. This does happen every so often, so I am not unduly worried. However it is obviously better for me, for the models I book, and for you as photographers if the events I plan are ones that where there is the most interest.

So please can I ask you to spare 5 minutes to take a short survey about events at Ian’s Studio. As a thank you for taking the survey, everyone who provides their name an email address before 9.00am on Monday 1st June will be entered into a draw to win £30 worth of vouchers which can be used to attend any event at Ian’s Studio.

Please be honest with your replies – if something isn’t working tell me! If you wish you can remain anonymous: just don’t give your name and email at the end of the survey.

Tonight’s Friday Night at the Studio event will be a little different. When I have been lecturing on the cruise ships on of my most popular sessions has been my Photo Doctor sessions. I’m now going to run one of these sessions as a Friday Night event.

The format of the session is simple, come with images. They don’t have to be your best images, the session works best with images that didn’t quite work – and perhaps you don’t know why. Come with photography related questions, is there a technique you want to understand, is there some photography advice you need.

We will load images in to Adobe Lightroom, and go through them, looking at them projected on studio wall. We talk about what works and what can be improved. If appropriate we then look at post production techniques that can be used to enhance the images.

Interspersed between the images, I will do my best to answer you photography questions, explaining techniques and helping you learn new skills.

Not only will you get answers to your own questions and advice on how to improve your photographs, but you get to hear the questions and answers from other photographers. It should all make for a fun evening where we can all learn more. All this for just £5.

Friday, 5 June 2015 – Red or Nothing

For tonight’s event we will be working with an experienced glamour model using the studio’s “red room” set-up. The set, and the props will be red, the outfits will be red or nothing!

The red room set-up has proved highly popular in the past and it offers a surprising amount of flexibility in set-up and lighting. You can see examples of types of images created with the red room here:

Friday, 19 June 2015 – Falling Down and Floating Up

For tonight’s Friday Night at the Studio event we will be looking at techniques for creating so called ‘levitation’ style images. These are images where a person appears to be floating in mid air.

If the weather permits we will go outside this evening and create images in the studio grounds and in the local parks. If the weather is not suitable we will work inside the studio.

You WILL need a tripod for this event. I have a couple of spare tripods at the studio – please let me know if you need to borrow one.

Model Strawberry Venom at Ian’s Studio

After nearly two years model Strawberry Venom returned to Ian’s Studio for a Friday Night at the Studio event. Highlight of the evening was this the Zebra patterned latex dress that she had designed and made herself.
