Woodbank Works, Turncroft Lane, Stockport, Cheshire, SK1 4AR

Have you got what it takes to be able to shoot a subject without any prior knowledge who they are?  For this session, I will only be revealing who the model is at the event.   As part of this session we will look at how we choose our lighting, backgrounds, and set-ups based on who our subject is.

The evening will start with a brief discussion with our subject, we look at the outfits and props he/she has brought to the event and based on this we will decide on three different set-ups.  This will be an opportunity to learn how to plan your shoot.

We will also look at some techniques which we can use to generate ideas – such as photo-brainstorming.

This event isn’t all about how many shots you can take – it is all about creating the best shots you can, irrespective of who the subject is.

Suitable for: Anyone wanting to learn how to art nude photography in the studio.  Your camera must have a standard hot-shoe to accommodate the lighting trigger.  You will need to be able to set your camera to manual mode and select an aperture in the range f/5.6 – f/11.  No prior studio experience is necessary.

A minimum of three photographers booking will be required to run this event.

Sunday, 9 September 2018 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Woodbank Works, Turncroft Lane, Stockport, Cheshire, SK1 4AR

This PhotoDoctor session was originally to do with images created in studios but I am extending it to cover any images you would like to receive feedback on.  Bring your  images to be critiqued.  Get answers to photography questions.  See how YOUR photos can be enhanced in post-production.

The format of the session is simple, come with images.  They don’t have to be your best images, the session works best with images that didn’t quite work – and perhaps you don’t know why.  Come with photography related questions, is there a technique you want to understand, is there some photography advice you need.

We will load images into Adobe Lightroom, and go through them, looking at them projected on the studio wall.  We talk about what works and what can be improved.  If appropriate we then look at post-production techniques that can be used to enhance the images.

Interspersed between the images, I will do my best to answer your photography questions, explaining techniques and helping you learn new skills.  Perhaps you have the solution to someone else’s photo issues and can help them.  There will be a chance to share and help each other too.

Not only will you get answers to your own questions and advice on how to improve your photographs, but you get to hear the questions and answers from other photographers.  It should all make for a fun afternoon where we can all learn more.  This event will be free for Academy Members, but there will be a charge of £10 for everyone else.

A minimum of two photographers booking will be required to run this event.

Don’t forget, Academy Members get in for  FREE (and save £10).

Friday, 6 July 2018 until 8 July 2018 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM
Woodbank Works, Turncroft Lane, Stockport, Cheshire, SK1 4AR

This is a full weekend of training in how to get the best out of your compact camera.  The training will consist of the following sessions:

Friday 6th July

7pm – 10pm – The secrets of compact camera composition.  The biggest improvement you will see in your photography has nothing to do with the settings on your camera but has everything to do with learning how to see images and to compose them.  Note: This session is based on my “Secrets of Great Composition” talk/lecture, however for this version is tailored towards compact camera and goes into much more depth than 45min lecture version ever does.

Saturday 7th July

10am – 1pm – Compact Camera Controls.  This three-hour session goes through the most common settings on compact cameras, this includes time to find those settings on your own camera and of course help locating them if needed.  The aim of this session is to help you begin to take control of your of what your camera can do, and know when to override the settings it is offering you.

A light buffet lunch included in the price

3pm onwards – A photo walk around Manchester City Centre – After lunch, we travel into the centre of Manchester for a photo walk.  This is a chance to put the skills you have learned so far on the course into practice.  I will be leading the walk and will, of course, be offering advice on both composition and settings as we walk around the city.  (Note: I recommend taking the tram from East Didsbury park and ride – the cost of the tram ticket (£4.20) is not included in the price).

Evening (Optional) – eat in Manchester city centre – the price of this meal is NOT included in the price of the course

Sunday 8th July

10am – 1pm – Managing and editing your images.  This three-hour session looks at different ways you can edit and modify your images.  We look at a number of different tools including some free ones that you can use to do basic adjustments to your photographs.  We will also look at different strategies for filing and backing up your photographs.

A light buffet lunch included in the price

2pm onwards – Photo Feedback – After lunch there will be an opportunity for those who wish to receive feedback on the images they created in Manchester to receive it.

If you are not from the Stockport area and need to find somewhere to stay – I have a list of budget accommodation here: https://www.ians-studio.co.uk/where-to-stay-round-stockport/

A minimum of three photographers booking will be required to run this event.

Woodbank Works, Turncroft Lane, Stockport, Cheshire, SK1 4AR

This session is designed as a direct follow on from the “Model Splash” event run early in the day.  It is not essential to have already done that session, however, if you have you will be able to use the images you shot as the base images for the Photoshop work

For those who have not been to “Model Splash” – sample images can be provided or you work with your own images, for the digital rain/lightning section of the training.  If working with your own images, the photographs you select will need to have a dark background.

At the session, we will show you how to create digital rain effects from scratch, and digital lightning effects from scratch.  We will show you how to save both so that you can reuse them on other images.  We also look at the use of downloadable brushes for adding lightning to images.

Printed notes and a DVD going over the techniques taught in this session will be included in this course.

Suitable for: Anyone who has done the “Digital Splash” workshop, or is interested in compositing and manipulating images in Photoshop.  The photoshop techniques talked about in this session are not difficult and should be possible for anyone with a basic knowledge of Photoshop.  Eg anyone who has been to event CR550, or has the equivalent knowledge.

A minimum of two photographers booking will be required to run this event.
