New Year Fireworks at Funchal

Happy New Year!

It’s the start of a new year (not a new decade BTW that’s 12 months off yet – yes I know I’m a pedant!).  As we enter the new year I’m making a few changes and planning for the next year (and beyond).

Survey 2020

I’d like to invite you to be part of the planning and changes.  As you know I am always happy to receive emails and hear your suggestions as to how Ian’s Studio can serve the photography community, but what would REALLY help is if you could spare me a few minutes to complete an online survey.  That makes it easier for me to collate the information.

You can find the survey here:

Academy Members

I’ve recently sent out a different survey to current Academy members.  If you are an Academy member I’d encourage you to complete that survey as it contains things that are specific to the Academy.  If you want to complete this one too that’s great, but if you only have time to do one, I’d prefer you to do the Academy one.

Website Upgrade

The upgrade/update the website is well underway now.  Some of the pages are done and I think they are looking great.  In particular, the new “Photographers Home Page” ( has a cleaner layout and is much easier to use, with all the recent content listed on the page.  I’ve also done something similar for The Academy member’s dashboard.

Past content such as blog posts, POTDs etc can all be found under the archive menu and I’ve improved the way such content is displayed.

As I type this, however, I’ve ‘broken’ one or two bits (including the Inspiration Sheet Archive) and fixing those things is being given priority.  Not all pages have been converted to the new format but I am slowly working my way through every page.

New Events

I’ve list two new events at the studio.  You can see the listings here: (And yes, I did check that isn’t one of the broken pages!) I am expecting both these events to be popular so please book early.

Social Media

I will be changing the frequency and content of the this Newsletter (Exactly HOW it will change will depend on the responses to the survey).   As a result, I’m going to be posting more ‘news’ items to the website to keep you informed with what is going on.  If you are not in the habit of regularly checking my website then I suggest you follow me on Twitter as I am posting tweets when I have posted to the website.

Even better than following me on Twitter is to join the studio Facebook Group – where I am not only posting the news updates but it’s also a great place to share your images with other photographers and to ask questions.

Until next time, keep MAKING great photos,
