Blog Archive

Welcome to the archive of blog posts at Ian’s Studio.  You will find lots of different things here.  For many years “blog” was very much a catch-all term for any posts that weren’t “Photos of the Day” or “Sales” posts.  Now blog posts tend to either be something topical, hints and tips or my general thoughts on photography and photographs.   Enjoy.   (PS. Keep scrolling down and more posts will appear!)

BLOG 26 Feb 2018 – Photography in a War Zone

I have never been a war photographer; I never want to be a war photographer.  I never photographed a riot and I hope I never will.  On Shrove Tuesday (Mardi Gras) the MV Magellan was docked in Ponta Delgada in The Azores.  Each year, the town celebrates Mardi Gras by having a massive water fight along the main road through the town.  It was great fun but also a little [...]

BLOG 30 Jan 2018: Amazon Life

I am finding this blog post a difficult one to write.  Not because I don’t know what to write but I don’t know what to leave out. As I write this we are heading to our last port in Brazil and our time in the Amazon is all but over.  I wanted to share with you some of the highlights of the trip and where possible a few photographic hints [...]

BLOG 22 Jan 2018: Protective Filters

I want to tackle a controversial subject in this week’s blog post.  Do you use a protective filter on the front of your lens.  You know the sort of thing I mean, it may be a ‘skylight’ filter or a UV filter, or potentially just a clear filter, but that’s not so common. If you bought your lens from a bricks and mortar shop, almost certainly, the sales assistant would [...]
